Does Red Light (LED) Therapy Really Work?

LIGHT THERAPY

So the question is "Does Red Light Therapy really work?

The answer is a resounding YES!!!

I will try and explain in easy terms without all the scientific data that tends to confuse me sometimes.

First of all, let's determine the #1 cause for decrease of collagen and elastin over time.

Aging, of course, contributes but that can be managed somewhat easily with regular facial treatments and facial  massage (cupping is great which I offer).  The Black Diamond Facial is an example of a relaxing, yet very effective treatment that includes upper body and facial massage.  The Medi-Cupping Facial also is an extraordinary treatment that also promotes stimulation of the collagen and elastin "firing" to increase circulation.  Improving dermal circulation (blood flow) is vital.  But the #1 cause of the collagen and elastin breaking down is sun exposure over time.  The damaging rays of the sun are the primary cause of premature aging of the skin.  It is true that short term sun exposure is beneficial due to the beneficial rays that come from the sun.  The sun has both beneficial and harmful light rays that emit.  We want only the beneficial rays from the sun.  These are the rays that are good for us and our skin.

What does Light Therapy do for our skin?

As time goes on, new technologies are being discovered everyday in all types of fields, including skin health.  We've heard how light (laser) can cut glass, re-surface skin, be used in certain types of surgery, be used in treating vericose veins and so much more.  Well, LED Light Therapy technology has been designed to harness the beneficial rays only.  The beneficial rays of light create the opposite effect of the damaging rays the sun emits.  LED Light Therapy increases and repairs collagen and elastin in the skin and works both in the dermal layer and epidermal layer of the skin improving the skin in overall tightening and plumping of the tissue reducing lines, pigmentation and even strengthening the skin overall.  Wow! That sounds like a winner to me!  This is why I've added this to my services.  You receive benefits in simply one 30 minute treatment, but I recommend adding light therapy a couple time a month (if not more) for maximum skin health.

The pictures above are taken directly from Celluma's website (the Light I use here).  These women aren't receiving regular facial treatments (that is obvious)....imagine the results when you are!  My ladies (clients) are getting younger everyday:)

How do I prepare for a treatment?

Keep in mind that when coming in for light therapy, you will want your skin to be free of any makeup, sunscreen etc. to allow the light to penetrate fully without being hampered by product.  I keep facial cleansers in the restroom to wash the skin, if necessary, before your treatment.  If coming in for a skin treatment with me, you will want to have your light therapy prior to the skin treatment.

How long is the treatment?

The light therapy is a timed treatment of 30 minutes.  I offer the Aqua Detox treatment as a paired treatment (it is also 30 minutes) for those who want to have a double treatment at the same time.  These treatments are given in the Relaxation Room with an added (complimentary) 15 minute heated automated shiatsu foot and back massage to leave you feeling completely relaxed.  Lazy brooks, low lighting and soft music allow you to escape this crazy world for just a little while:)  There are pepperming steamed towels in the towel warmer for your feet after your 30 minute Aqua Detox treatment (if you choose to get that).
